While at MIT, Sofia enjoyed serving as a mentor for high school and college students who were learning how to conduct research. She taught them how to thrive in this setting and mentored them in their writing and educational paths. As a mentor, Sofia emphasizes listening, engagement, and critical thinking. Acting as a coach, she works with each student to develop their passions, strengthen their skills in writing and critical thinking, and find their educational fit.
Outside of college counseling and research, Sofia is a trained classical violist and composer. While at Smith, she was the Principal Violist of the Smith College Orchestra and hosted a weekly global jazz radio show through her college radio station. She loves going to see music performances, spending time with horses, and exploring new cities.
