ESC Alumni Panels II: Exploring Majors

This summer, we were lucky enough to welcome a number of ESC alumni back to the ESC Center for “Alumni Panels”, during which they provided valuable advice and guidance to our current students about application season and life at their respective colleges. During our second set of Alumni Panels, we welcomed back ESC alumni to discuss different student interest areas that will play a role in college research and student life at college. ESC students are very fortunate to benefit from the wisdom of our alumni community as they prepare for the academic journey ahead!

At our Social Sciences and Humanities Panel, we were joined by Carol, from the University of Pennsylvania (prospective Political Science major), Tiger, from Princeton University and a (prospective Economics, Philosophy, and German major), Joy from Georgetown University (prospective International Relations and German major), and Bosong from the University of Chicago (prospective Economics major). At the panel, they discussed topics such as how to choose a major, how to succeed in the humanities and social sciences, and the role that networking can play in finding opportunities.

At our STEM panel, we were joined by Chuck from Rice University (math and computer science major) and Crystal from Tufts University (biology major). At the panel, they discussed topics including what to expect from a STEM curriculum at different colleges and universities, how to choose a major, and resources to find good professors. Our students are lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from these budding leaders in STEM!

At our Historically Women’s College panel, we were joined by Grace from Wellesley College, Sara from Barnard College, and YueWei, who recently graduated from Bryn Mawr College. At the panel, they discussed topics including the advantages of attending a historically women’s college, misconceptions about life at historically women’s colleges, and networking possibilities at historically women’s colleges. It was a highly informative and empowering event!

Choosing a major or committing to a historically women’s college are big choices that can seem overwhelming at times. But ESC’s amazing alumni community is here to support our current students as they reflect on the exciting journey ahead!
